I believe in the power of friendship. That 3 people can meet on an internet chat forum and go through so many of life’s celebrations and challenges and become lifelong friends without ever meeting in person. And that sometimes, events come along that are so SIGNIFICANT,  that these people are finally brought together and it is as if they have always been a part of each others lives.

I believe in the power of women. That we have a deep connection and understanding of one another that only we can understand. That the simple task of putting your friends hair in a pony tail when she is sick and in bed and can’t manage herself is such a selfless act of love and compassion.

I believe in the power of motherhood. That the road to motherhood is a challenging journey that each mother takes filled with twists and turns, bumps and laughter. That experiencing motherhood is so much easier and more fun being surrounded by other mothers experiencing the same journey

But most of all, I believe in *MIRACLES*

This weekend I was able to experience all of the above and it forever changed my heart in the most incredible way. I witnessed more miracles in 36 hours than ever before; such as this little miracle below, at 32 weeks, breathing on his own and touching his father for the first time.

The journey to parenthood is a miracle in itself no matter how you get there. This is a small reminder of how a creature so small and helpless can be so POWERFUL and strong and change the lives of those they touch in so many ways.

Happy Birthday Baby Q, may your life be filled with as many beautiful miracles as I witnessed this weekend! You are destined for GREAT THINGS!

A few weeks ago I learned about a little girl name Layla Grace. http://laylagrace.org/ Layla is a 22 month old little girl battling stage 4 neuroblastoma . Neuroblastoma is a solid cancerous tumor that begins in the nerve cells of infants and young children and accounts for about 7% of all childhood cancers. Layla’s parents began blogging and twittering about their experience as parents of a child suffering from this terrible disease. I started following their story and read page after page of this mother reminiscing of earlier days and all the little things we take for granted. You know, lazy afternoon lunches, crumb scattered cheeks, sloppy wet kisses, long baby eye lashes, cherub cheeks and eyes that sparkle and dance with each laugh. These are the little things that as parents we often overlook or take for granted, but as a mother and photographer, I long to capture. I feel so blessed for every moment that I have with my little one, and that I am able to capture these memories not only for my own family but others. Little Miss Layla Grace has taught me one of life’s greatest gifts.  Laugh often, Live hard and cherish all those precious simple moments, because they are what makes each day special.

My prayers and thoughts go out to this family and all other families battling childhood illness. I ask that we all take a few extra moments each day to dance with our babies before bed, tumble with our toddlers on the floor and share a quick snack with our every busy and bubbly teenagers because THIS is what life is about!!

As I sit here enjoying a hot cup of coffee on this chilly winter day there is a faint hint of spring. There is a crispness in the air feathered with the soft faint smell of green; you know, that earthy fresh smell of wet moss and dirt. It is the smell that spring is just around the corner and soon we will all be opening our windows on those first few warm days, letting all of our homes get chilly,  but allowing that green smell of life to spill into our homes, rejuvenating our souls and spirit with the hope that warmer days are just around the corner. And with this I think of spring weddings scented with lilacs and peonies and portrait sessions with little girls in tutus and fairy wings dancing in the woods on soft beds of moss making us all feel young and alive again. Spring and warmer days are around the corner and thankfully my schedule is filling up with the love of spring and summer: weddings sprinkled with flower petals, sweet little newborns, little girls in tutus and young boys with balloons and neck ties borrowed from their daddys… Can you feel it? Spring is almost here, so capture those sweet memories outdoors before winter is back around! Email me today to book your session.
